You may know her from her new Netflix series based on her book ‘High on the Hog: A Culinary Journey from Africa to America,’ but famed food historian, Jessica B. Harris, is the author of an equally intriguing book about African postcards.
Having collected vintage cards throughout her food-related travels, she has assembled a treasure trove of keepsakes from across the continent, which she shares in her book ‘Vintage Postcards from the African World: In the Dignity of Their Work and the Joy of Their Play.’
Organized geographically, sections are devoted to Africa, the Caribbean, and the United States with each featuring postcards grouped into four categories: The Farm, The Garden, and The Sea; The Marketplace; The Vendors and The Cooks; and Leisure, Entertainment, and Festivities. The book is a visual tour of the culture and history of the African World.
