A young man was sentence to death for arm robbery, rape and murder. He was given an opportunity to speak with his parents before his execution. On seeing his parents he requested that they go closer to him as he had something to tell them before his untimely end. Though he was chained, he bit his mother’s ear and vehemently rained abuses on them. He claimed they were responsible for his current predicament as they failed to guide him in the right path.Logically, the blame should be attributed to the young man for being responsible for his doom, as his situation at that moment was an aftermath of his decisions and actions. On the contrary,he is a product of the wrong foundation layed by a faulty society. There was a scenario that a boy and his sister were running around, they collided and both fell and cried for help but the mother ran to the rescue of the girl only. The boy cried even more in order to get the mother’s attention but was rather hushed by the neighbours as well as his mum. Don’t you know that you are boy, behave like one they yelled at him. That day they took away his right to express himself when hurt and he eventually became that boy who has no feelings. The male child is exposed to violence and vulgarity in their formative years. The cartoons and music videos they watch depicts nothing but this vices yet no one really takes time to checkmate all these.
They are often kept in the custody of relatives and nannies who expose these young minds to pornography and sometimes sexually abuses them but because they are boys no one really pays attention even when they report. At the end the day they grow up to be perverts and morally deformed individuals.
However, the female child is well educated about her sexuality. She is even told that whenever she feels violated she should report. In some cases there are emergency numbers she can call in such situations. She is trained to be chaste,be a cook and a mother, a loyal wife and a responsible citizen. Seldomly do we find parents willing to spend their time grooming the male child and help him navigate the tides of life to achieve his purpose. In most cases the male child is the preferred gender. He is perceived to be the one to carry on the family linage hence he is treated as the conqueror when is actually the conquered. He is made to understand that he is superior to his counterpart both genetically and otherwise. And as such, whatever he wants he gets whenever and however.
Academically the female child has exceeded the male as they pay little or no attention to the things that really matter hence there are more male children dropping out of school or are unemployable graduates. The number of cult groups among young people keeps increasing by the day with 97% of them being the male children. Rape, armed robbery, internet fraud, terrorism to mention but a few has become the order of the day with the male folks as the chief perpetrators. These young people are endowed with great potentials yet they end up dead or imprison for life. We have the one of the highest labour force yet our economy is sinking by the day as we keep loosing the able bodied young men to this vices.
The youths are known to be the leaders of tomorrow but our youths have become the trouble of today and the doom that awaits us tomorrow. Development is bound to take place where there is peace but in its absence the reverse will be the case. Foreign investors are driven away due to the high level of unrest. Domestic businesses are finding it very difficult to thrive as they are constantly confronted by the challenges of insecurity, unemployable workforce and lots more. Creative ideas are being channeled to the wrong sources thereby depriving the society of great innovations and inventions. The adoption of electronic commerce has not been fully embraced by all for fear of being defraud by internet fraudsters which has now become the current trend among our youths. The heart of every economy is it’s businesses but when it’s crumbling the economy equally crumbles.
The male child is nothing but a victim of his society. He is the victim of a system that deceived him; that it is a sign of weakness for a man to cry.He is the victim of a system that gave him a false sense of dominance over his female counterpart. He is the victim of a system that had no strict boundaries for his social conduct and contriteness whereas the girl was prepared for life and marriage. He is the victim of our cultural flaws and idiosyncrasies. He is the victim of a faulty foundation of a failed society. There is nothing wrong with building a child’s self esteem but there should be a balance approach to this effect. – YA
