Entrepreneur Melichsia Boss is making waves in the hair care industry with her unique products. She is the owner of Potent Jamaican Black Castor Oil (PJBCO).
According to Black News, she makes her products with a family recipe started by her deceased grandfather in her 5,000 square feet warehouse where she formulates and manufactures products for healing damaged hair starting at the scalp. She is currently the first and only African-American woman in the Chicagoland area to have achieved this.
For 13 years, the Potent Jamaican Black Castor Oil line of products have been helping Black people achieve healthier hair by using castor oil. The haircare line includes a Sea Moss Collection, Hair Growth Collection, Hair Growth Oils, and Jamaican Hair Shampoos, Conditioners, Wholesale, and Private Label Program.

Boss created her products as a solution to a personal problem. She recalled how her grandfather used to treat her hair using crafted Jamaican castor oil. She took to YouTube and learned about the importance of a healthy scalp and how it relates to a healthy head of hair. With her new knowledge, in addition to her family tradition on hair care treatment, she built her own company.
Despite the improvement in technology and new ways of doing things, Potent Jamaican Black Castor Oil has strived to maintain the traditional way of deriving the oil from roasting instead of pressing.
“This method provides nutty undertones, creates a deep color, and the residual ash helps fight dandruff-causing bacteria. PJBCO’s offerings are bolstered by essential oils, vitamins, other natural nutritive infusions, and superior hair growth aids, unlike other castor oil items,” according to Black News.
Boss said she is excited to create an innovative hair product that improves all hair types, adding that she is inspired by the impact she is making.
“I wanted to create innovative hair care products that focus on scalp care and improve all hair types. This gave me the inspiration and the motivation to join the business arena where I now have a positive impact in the beauty industry,” the haircare entrepreneur told Black News.
